Many of you have asked us to keep you posted with our 3 month journey through Europe and the Balkans.
Our basic plan which is intentionally designed to be very flexible is to drive into France and initially explore the Jura Regional Park and from there visit our good friends Penny and Eric Kendal at Chalet Edelweiss, Mottec, Switzerland. ( you must take a look at their superb website photos athttp://www.skizinal.com/ which show the luxury accommodation we are so privileged to enjoy )
Next into Italy with a stop off at Agriturismo Montaione, Sorana Di Pescia, Tuscany for some quality time with our wonderful Italian friends in the Tuscan Mountains.
Thereafter ( 29.09 ) we will make our way to Vounaki, Greece by ferry from Bari to Igoumenitsa. Then jump on board our chartered yacht with Chris and Sandra for 7 days sailing round the exquisite Ionian Islands. Hoping that this doesn't test our recent training with the Royal yachting Association!
From here we travel north through Albania,Montenegro,Bosnia,Croatia,Slovenia,Austria,Slovakia,Czechoslovakia,Germany,Belgium?Holland?France and home.
By which time it will be the beginning of December.! Melanie and Ian are living at our house whilst we are away. We hope they enjoy their time together their with Archie who has now learnt that Water Lilies are not designed for walking on!
Our Home for the next 3 months come rain, snow or shine! a Romahome R30. Sharon and I first saw one over 20yrs ago and Sharon has been dreaming of getting a Romahome for our travels ever since. After 30 years in a 1.3kg 2man tent this is truly palatial despite being less than 5 metres in length which allows it to qualify for family car rate on ferries! It has been kitted up to allow us to spend days on end without the need to stay on a designated campsite so perfect for the wilder places of Europe and the Balkans etc etc!!!
Subject: (Final Vers) Dave & Sharon are off to explore Southern Europe and the Balkans. Departure date 29.8.11 return Sometime!! in November 2011. Melanie Lamprecht our niece and her partner Ian Chalkley will be Housesitting Dawley Cottage throughout so still feel free to pop in for a cuppa they would love to meet most of you!!

For any of you we haven't been able to speak with before our departure please accept our sincerest apologies. The logistics, vehicle adaptations, documentation, home insurance and all other planning has taken far longer than anticipated leaving us little time to finalise everything before we depart. So we won't be able to do more than send this email before we go on Monday in our second home ( see pic below).
We will send the odd email back about our progress but havent had time as yet to set up a blog or similar comms medium. If you would like to be included in our progress emails plse let us know.
Our route will take us through France/Switzerland/Italy then by ferry from Bari to Greece. Here we have chartered a yacht to sail around the Ionian Islands from 2.10 to 9.10. Back on dry land we head north through Albania/Montenegro/Bosnia/Croatia/Slovenia/Austria/then poss Slovakia/poss Czech Rep/Germany/Holland/Belgium/France & Home. Although we have been known to divert off intended routes if the temptation is too great!
Along the way we propose to visit relatives and friends if they cannot think of a good enough excuse to put us off! We haven't made specific plans as for once in our lives we did not want to tie ourselves down to a strict itinerary. So anyone along this route have your excuse prepared! or you will find us on your doorstep ( not without consultation and good notice of course! )
Whilst away we will periodically view emails but our research indicates that in a number of these countries WiFI access will be difficult as we intend to spend most of our time off the beaten track in National Parks and the wilder countryside areas. If you have a skype address send us your skype name and we might be able to make contact via our laptop.
